Black teen pregnancies? A ‘crisis’ in black America.
White teen pregnancies? A ‘blessed event.’
If you grow up in Hawaii you’re ‘exotic.’
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you’re the quintessential ‘American story.’
Similarly, if you name your kid Barack you’re ‘unpatriotic.’
Name your kids Trig and Track, you’re ‘colorful.’
If you’re a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you’re ‘reckless.’
A Republican who doesn’t fully vet is a ‘maverick.’
If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter regstration drive that registers 150,000 new African Amerian voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, then spend nearly 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of nearly 13 million people, sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you are woefully inexperienced.
If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, you’ve got the most executive experience of anyone on either ticket, are the Commander in Chief of the Alaska military and are well qualified to lead the nation should you be called upon to do so because your state is the closest state to Russia.
If you are a Demoratic male candidate who is popular with millions of people you are an ‘arrogant celebrity’.
If you are a popular Republican female candidate you are ‘energizing the base’.
If you are a younger male candidate who thinks for himself and makes his own decisions you are ‘presumptuous’.
If you are an older male candidate who makes last minute decisions you refuse to explain, you are a ‘shoot from the hip’ maverick.
If you are a candidate with a Harvard law degree you are ‘an elitist ‘out of touch’ with the real America.
If you are a legacy (dad and granddad were admirals) graduate of Annapolis, with multiple disciplinary infractions you are a hero.
If you manage a multi-million dollar nationwide campaign, you are an ’empty suit’.
If you are a part time mayor of a town of 7000 people, you are an ‘experienced executive’.
If you go to a south side Chicago church, your beliefs are ‘extremist’.
If you believe in creationism and don’t believe gobal warming is man made, you are ‘strongly principled’.
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a Christian.
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years with whom you are raising two beautiful daughters you’re ‘risky’.
If you’re a black single mother of 4 who waits for 22 hours after her water breaks to seek medical attention, you’re an irresponsible parent, endangering the life of your unborn child.
But if you’re a white married mother who waits 22 hours, you’re spunky.
If you’re a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, the right-wing press calls you ‘First dog.’
If you’re a 17-year old pregnant unwed daughter of a Republican, the right-wing press calls you ‘beautiful’ and ‘courageous.’
If you kill an endangered species, you’re an excellent hunter.
If you have an abortion you’re not a christian, you’re a murderer ( forget about if it happened while being date raped)
If you teach abstinence only in sex education, you get teen parents.
If you teach responsible age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
I dont think that I’ll start with the standard its been awhile. Im back in class and so far it has been exactly what I expected. I’m at the get through it point. The office is starting to normalize I think. I was pretty blind to a bunch of stuff so this could all be in my head. The house is real quite sometimes too quiet. Ive thought of a roommate but I really cant think of anyone. The peson that I did think about already has a place. The rest of the single people I know all happen to be girls and in the deep south that is out of the question I guess. So its me in an empty house. It will be a year in October that Ive been here. Wow how time flies. I’ve learned a lot about the whole home thing. I think Ive done a good job. This is the point in writing where you kinda run out of things to say so you just keep typing. That other blog I need to start soon. I’ll do that this week. Work I could talk about that. It seems that we are rebuilding I think. We have lost some people so its time to start over again. I had to do that a couple of years ago. You know I think there is a time when you find out that you are in a career. Like I’m not really looking to do anything else You may be asking yourself about school well sometimes you need something else going on. Ok. You ever notice when you dont have a chance with someone. When you start thinking about the options and you come to the realization that that is just not going to happen so you reevaluate the entire relationship. I’m having one of those moments. Anyway movingg on. My weeks are now defined by how many class I have this week. This week I only have two and next week because of an event we are doing i wont be at two next week. One class it will be like three weeks since I’d been there. Already cleared with prof so thanks for the help. Gloria Francis will be coming out to the house in Oct. Thats my mother. So here goes the evaluation. Have you thought of that have you looked at this. Your really should dont forget to you really need to. Oh its coming. Ive started to spend more time in the room that Tiffany and I painted. Its good to have good friends. She has been the only person that never gets mad at me. I think you need those kinda people in your life. Alway proud, always glad to see you, always kinda cool with you. You see I get people mad at me all the time. So what you gonna do. I guess that’s something I got to work on. With her I dont. ok enough of the update. Hey both of you thanks for reading. Tomorrow I’ll do something that I said I was done with and that was be in a video. It is my secret way of staying of stage. That I wont do.
So who goes to taos new Mexico ? Old white people. Lots of fun so far. Went hiking this morning heading to peublos this afternoon then to the whirlpool. Had breakfast with two couples this morning the single black dude we were a sight. I’m sitting in the plaza having lunch now.
Ok so I’ve started back class and they have asked me to start a class blog. So instead of starting a new one I will be taking you along for the ride. Ok im sitting outside if class right now Typing on the old iphone. I never understand
How people connect so fast. It’s like they know each other so well I think this is mostly me. I can hear roger an officer from mountainbrook. He’s a good guy we end up in class a lot which is fine. Anyway that class I think it’s called urban studies or something like that. Should be fun it’s one of my electives so you know how that goes. Well it’s getting close to time a. I just read over a bit and I sound like a teenager talking about his first day of school. Oh something else I’m trying since I can’t read my handwriting I will be taking notes ok my computer. Well see how that goes eishe luck. Oh the prof is here I’ll try and take pictures soon of her actually each of them do you can see a face and a name
It’s not just the economy that has affected this firm. I have many friends who have worked for BSSB/LifeWay over the years. A decision was taken in the early 1990’s to walk away from its distinctive Baptist identity (the renaming from Baptist Sunday School Board to LifeWay), and identify itself as a generic provider of product to the evangelical marketplace. It abandoned its core loyal following in the attempt to to chase after a market it did not know, and which did not know it after it attempted to change its identity. This approach proved unsuccessful, to state it mildly.
Several reorganizations followed, consolidations and downsizings, as it attempted to recover from this blunder. Amongst the executives fired was the guy who susequently oversaw the marketing of one of the best selling books of the past twenty years, in any market. He had attempted to place the book at Lifeway, and they would have none of it.
Economies go through cycles, and we’re definitely heading through the down cycle just now. But this firm’s woes run much deeper.
Let’s wish them well, and hope they get their legs back under them.
